  • 2007 Year in Review

    1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Completed my 25th year of life, experienced my first London snowfall, celebrated a wedding reception 6months after the actual wedding, enjoyed having my London friends at my American home, visited England’s beautiful coast (twice – Margate in Kent and Seaford in Sussex), celebrated Toby’s first birthday, acquired my first real gardening tool (and used it frequently – and with glee!), was a bridesmaid in my father-in-law’s wedding, found out you can get paid really well for typing fast, got a fulltime job after 2 years of part-time, lost our 17-year old kitty, celebrated our first year of marriage, obtained a mortgage in principle, started house hunting for real instead of just for fun, planned my husband’s 30th birthday party, celebrated Christmas with my husband in WI and Iowa with my family, rang in the New Year with my husband and some pretty fantastic 104ians.

    2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t make them, so probably still won’t. Although according to our New Year's Resolutions game last night, I want to learn to like mushrooms. (Which is true. Along with salmon and tuna. And onions.)

    3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Zack and Bre had their second son, Asa. Steve and Louisa had their first baby, Noah. And in the early hours yesterday morning, Adam and Ann had their first baby boy, Josiah Stanley!!!

    4. Did anyone close to you die?
    We lost Sir Charles.
And Joe’s dad Randy died, which was pretty much like losing a member of the family. It was horrible being stuck in London during that time.

    5. What countries did you visit?
It wasn’t a big year for intercontinental traveling – save for two trips to America (which is why we didn’t have any money to travel elsewhere!)

    6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
Hehe – well, we do have that savings for a down payment that I was hoping for last year! So for 2008, I’d like to find that place of our own!

    7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Days of celebration: Wedding reception in WI (April), Suresh and Brenda’s wedding (August), our first anniversary in Seaford (October), Ush’s birthday (December), Christmas in Iowa, NYE in Illinois

    8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Completing our first year of marriage!!

    9. What was your biggest failure?
“Does mistake = failure? Not necessarily. Mistakes may bring negative consequences, but there's always a positive if you've learned something from the situation...
Anyway, I didn't make any mistakes because I'm perfect.  ”

    (I’m keeping last year’s answer. )

    10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

    Nothing major, thankfully.

    11. What was the best thing you bought?
My new weedwhacker was an exciting purchase. I’ve found some pretty great thrift store bargains too – books, shoes, clothes, trinkets – ooh! And a set of 13 plates/bowls for 12quid!

    12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My answers are the same this year, and for similar reasons:
Ushwin – a wonderfully supportive and incredibly generous best friend and (finally!) husband
My brother – I’m so proud of his growth as a man and an individual. And he’s now a college grad!!
My parents – I could not have a better model of adults, parents, and a husband-wife team
My friends – old and new – who let me be who I am and still love me for it

    13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Why focus on the negative? I’d rather think about the many many people in my life that I am proud to know.

    14. Where did most of your money go?

There wasn’t really one specific area this year. Pretty much the usual suspects – rent, bills, etc.

    15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Both trips to America. The prospect of finding our own place.

    16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
    “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis

    17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
    i. happier or sadder? I’m still happy
ii. thinner or fatter? Pretty much the same, give or take a few.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer – now that we’re on two fulltime salaries.

    18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I’d gotten my post-wedding thank you notes out sooner. They loomed at the back of my head much longer than they should’ve.

    19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

    Procrastinating.

    20. How will you be spending this New Year’s Eve?
At the Britcher home with friends from college

    22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
I fell more in love with my husband and our little family and our way of life in general. We’re so blessed.

    23. How many one-night stands?
Nothing more serious than a late night with a big pizza that I regretted the next day.

    24. What was your favourite TV program?
Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Studio60, Chuck, 24, My Name is Earl, Sex & the City, Goodness Gracious Me, How To Look Good Naked, Nigella Express, To Buy or Not To Buy

    25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don’t hate people, I hate issues – such as greed and intolerance and selfishness.

    26. What was the best book you read?
This wasn’t a huge year for reading. But I really liked the ones I did read.

A Spot of Bother – Mark Haddon
Marley & Me – John Grogan
    Perfect Match – Jodi Picoult
    Plain Truth – Jodi Picoult
The Memory Keepers Daughter – Kim Edwards

That’s all I can remember right now. Oh, and I’m currently reading Picoult’s Mercy.

    27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Not so much my discovery.. But Leona Lewis, last year’s X-Factor winner! I heart her.

    28. What did you want and get?
Ushwin’s family and my family all blended so wonderfully – like they were meant to be in-laws!! That was the greatest gift I could’ve imagined.

    30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Can’t remember.. I loved Little Miss Sunshine, and Transformers was a surprising favourite. Enchanted was sweet.

    31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
For my 25th, I think a whole bunch of us went to Chimichanga’s for dinner and then bowling. Nothing big!

    32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Immeasurably? Well, winning millions of pounds in the lottery would probably have been immeasurably satisfying. But I’m not complaining.
In general, it was an excellent year. A wonderful first year of marriage

    33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?

Did I mention my many fabulous charity shop finds?! I didn’t have a personal fashion concept. Though I did start buying nicer clothes because of work and I wore a dress even though I didn’t have to. So that’s pretty big

    34. What kept you sane?
Well, I don’t think I was ever really on the verge of going insane. But Toby is always a good defuser if you’re getting stressed about something big or little.

    35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I can’t really think of anyone that I fancied.

    36. What political issue stirred you the most?
    Intolerance of differences.

    37. Who did you miss?
As long as I’m living in London, the answer will always be the same – my parents and friends from back home.

    38. Who was the best new person you met?
Did I meet very many new people? None that became permanent fixtures, really. I reconnected with people lots, though, which was fantastic.

    39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
Take care of the important stuff and don’t sweat the small stuff. (Well, I’m still working on learning it…)

    40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I honestly can’t even think of anything. I hate to leave this question unanswered, but I am stumped. Oh well.
    Here’s to 2008!!!
