I wasn't going to post today, because I thought "It's 9/11.. Important anniversary.. Shouldn't speak of other trivial matters for the risk of seeming uncaring..." But sod it. There's another, happier, anniversary today that I would like to celebrate alongside the solemn remembrance of that tragedy that occurred 6 years ago..
Two years ago today, right about now actually, there were hugs and tears and more hugs as we stood in a lobby at OHare saying our goodbyes to my mom and dad.. It astounded me how profound that moment felt, as we walked away from them towards Departures.
Ushwin and I boarded a plane to London.. The final step after months of planning and a summer of applications and visas; a new step in our decision to share our lives
in the same country - fancy that! (Hey - it was an exciting concept for us.)
The goodbyes were the epitome of bittersweet. Leaving my family was heartbreaking, but the idea of remaining an ocean away from Ush was too.
It was an overnight flight and when we arrived in London the next morning, after lugging suitcase after suitcase up 3 flights of stairs - we had made it. Ushwin hugged me and, I'll never forget this, said, "Welcome home, honey! This is the start of our new life together."

I have some great pictures of this day that your mom took. Have you seen them?
And regarding localrapmaster's comment, above, about flying 9/11...Kimberly flew to Des Moines on 9/11 this month too; I booked the flight for her. I will never knowingly let terrorists truncate any activity that I ever need to or want to do, nor will I ever counsel anyone to limit there comings and goings because of what terrorists threaten...that's kind of what they'd love as an outcome, aside from conversion to Islam. (Osama warned the US of that last week..."American people, convert to Islam and you'll be safe." Thanks for the loving counsel, bin Laden.)
