  • Here ya go, folks... 2004 - Stephanie style...
(Go to December 30, 2003 if you're at all interested in skimming over my review of 2003!)

    THE YEAR IN REVIEW

    1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
Student teaching, graduated college, moved into an apartment, got a "real job", have my own health insurance, had my first Christmas without my family, and got a boyfriend!!!

    2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Pretty sure I didn't really make any last year. So, that'd be a big fat NO for making any again this year. I do better with short term (aka: more attainable) goals!

    3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
    Ummm.. *thinking* Nope.

    4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, thank the Lord. (Had a couple close calls though.)

    5. What countries did you visit?
Hmph. None. BUT, if all goes as I hope, I will be going to London over spring break!!!

    6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
    Little to no debt

    7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Not as many as last year. (It's so interesting reading what I wrote for 2003!) October 19th was the start of something good. November 11th the countdown began. December 21st (as well as the following 9 days) was more amazing than I ever thought it could be!

    8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Slowly but definitely surely cutting the apron strings

    9. What was your biggest failure?
    Procrastinating on various things.

    10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I was sick with who-knows-what for just over a week back in September. May not sound like a big deal, but I'm NEVER sick for that long. I was completely incapacitated for 6 whole days.. and then slowly started to recover over the next 3 days...

    11. What was the best thing you bought?
Hmm.. well, the only big expenditure of money that DIDN'T cause me to groan was my bridesmaid dress!!! It's beyooootiful!

    12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I am super proud of my brother!!! He's finally picked a major, he's loving his classes, and he's getting awesome grades! *beaming with pride*

    13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Hmmm... I don't know that anyone's behavior appalled me... Those who do appalling things, well it usually isn't a surprise. And I don't think anyone's behavior particularly depressed me either.

    14. Where did most of your money go?
Ugh... apartment rent, car insurance, car maintenance, utility bills, cell phone bills, groceries, etc etc etc... (the whole "apron-string-cutting" process, aka Life.)

    15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
    December 21st

    16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
    the entire Gavin DeGraw CD

    17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
    i. happier or sadder?
    Right now? WAY happier!!!
ii. thinner or fatter? Probably a bit thinner, but mostly the same.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer for sure.

    18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercise. (That'll always be the case.) Worked more (besides my main job)

    19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
    Worrying.

    20. How will you be spending this New Year’s Eve?
Crying over the departure of my little cottonhead. (Along with hanging out with Joe, Greg, Nicole, Ike, and [insert name of new puppy])

    22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
Wellllll, I'm definitely in the process...

    23. How many one-night stands?
    None. I'm no ho!!

    24. What was your favorite TV program?
The OC!!! Season two is rocking just as hard as the first!

    25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope. I don't hate anyone. Paris Hilton sure is nasty though.

    26. What was the best book you read?
It's a tie: "The Last Sin Eater" - Francine Rivers and "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime" - Mark Haddon

    27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Gavin DeGraw (number one for sure!), Lockdown Project, Funeral for a Friend, Maroon 5, Fall Out Boy, Ben Folds, and Saves the Day

    28. What did you want and get?
My own life (despite the huge dent in my checking account, it's totally worth it!)

    30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Hmm... Probably "The Passion"... That one had the greatest impact anyway. And I giggled all the way through "Napoleon Dynamite"! Favorite DVD that I own would be "Love Actually"

    31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
My birthday was crap this year. I went out to dinner with some friends, which was nice. But then the rest of the evening's plans fell through.

    32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Probably lots of things, but that’s not to say that it was unsatisfying. I don’t need to go into all the what if’s…
(That's was last year's answer, and it still applies!)
I'm so happy right now, so therefore I wouldn't change the events of the past because they all played a role in bringing me to this point!

    33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
I think this is a lame question, therefore I’m bypassing it.
(Once again, last year's answer and I'm keepin' it.)

    34. What kept you sane?
    My job. I LOVE it!!!

    35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
    Adam Brody.

    36. What political issue stirred you the most?
    Ugh. I hate politics.

    37. Who did you miss?
Lots of people. I always miss those I love when I don't get to see them often enough.

    38. Who was the best new person you met?
Well, there was this one guy...

    39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004:
Transitional stages can REALLY suck, so just realize that and plow on through!!!

    40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Everybody knows it sucks to grow up, but everybody does..." - Ben Folds

Steph...just in case you missed what I said yesterday...I most definitely approve.  Ush is wonderful and I'm so happy for you!  Let me know if you need to talk (I know that the first few days apart are hard when you have just had the most wonderful times together).  Love you girl, thanks again for picking me up yesterday, I'm so glad I got to spend some time with you.  Have a great New Years Eve (thanks again for providing the scene for the beginning of the most wonderful four years of my life with my wonderful husband).

Didn't we meet last year?  I know Steph made that point in my last Year in Review...

I hope you're okay today, sorry we couldn't meet up.  I'm thinking my next Chicago trip will be in February.  We'll have to plan something!
